Frequently Asked Questions
These FAQs are designed to give you clarity before you train at Carve. They explain how our studio works, what’s expected, and how to get the most out of your training here.
THE WORKOUT
-
Carve takes a strength and resistance training approach to reformer Pilates.
Our sessions are programmed to build real strength, capability, and consistency over time - not just to feel hard in the moment or look good on social media.
Classes are coached with clear structure, progressive loading, and layered options so everyone follows the same class while working at an appropriate level.
We prioritise consistency, coaching, and standards. That’s what creates results.
-
If you’re new to Carve, All Levels Reformer is where you start.
All Levels is our signature class and where most members train week to week. You’ll be coached through the fundamentals of the reformer while training alongside regular Carvers who load and progress their sessions.
If you already have reformer experience and train consistently, Level Up Reformer may be suitable - see below.
-
Level Up is designed for experienced Carvers who are comfortable with reformer fundamentals and train consistently.
These sessions use heavier loading, more complex movement patterns, and higher physical and mental demand.
Level Up is not suitable for beginners, prenatal or postnatal clients, or those managing injuries.
If you’re unsure, start with All Levels and ask your trainer they’ll let you know when Level Up is appropriate.
-
We have 11 reformers, so classes are kept small.
This allows for strong group energy while ensuring everyone is coached, seen, and supported.
-
All Levels classes can be modified for prenatal, postnatal, or minor injuries with prior notice. Level Up Reformer is not suitable in these circumstances.
Please note we are not a rehabilitative studio and operate with a ‘modifications not substitutions’ approach in group classes - meaning we can give modifications to our exercises but if you need to do a completely different exercise to the rest of the class (substitution) you’ll need to attend private sessions until we can get you comfy with modifications. Please contact the studio before booking so we can confirm whether group classes are suitable, or whether a private session would be more appropriate.
-
Please arrive 10 minutes early for your first session. Late entry is not permitted.
Your instructor will walk you through the reformer and how the class works.
Wear comfortable activewear you can move freely in.
Grip socks are compulsory for safety and hygiene. You’re welcome to bring your own or purchase them in‑studio.
BOOKINGS, WAITLISTS & ATTENDANCE
-
All bookings are managed via the Carve Studio app.
We recommend booking your classes in advance, as sessions often fill.
-
Classes must be cancelled at least 8 hours before start time to retain the credit
Late cancellations (under 8 hours) and no‑shows forfeit the credit
Late entry is not permitted under any circumstances
These policies exist to keep classes running smoothly and to respect other members’ and our trainers’ time.
All bookings, changes and cancellations must be made self managed via the app - we are not able to accept or action these via phone / social media / email.
-
If a class is full, you can add yourself to the waitlist via the app.
If a spot becomes available, you’ll be automatically added to the class and notified by email and text.
Once you are added from the waitlist:
You are considered fully booked into the class
The normal 8‑hour cancellation policy applies
If you can no longer attend before being added from the waitlist: remove yourself from the waitlist.
If you can no longer attend after being added from the waitlist, you must cancel with at least 8 hours’ notice to avoid forfeiting the credit.
Being on the waitlist means you are committing to attend if a spot opens.
MEMBERSHIPS
-
Memberships are the standard way to train at Carve.
They are billed weekly and run on a 12‑week minimum term, with options for 2, 3, or 4 classes per week.
Memberships support consistent training, booking ahead, and long‑term progress.
-
Most members train 2-4 times per week.
Consistency matters more than intensity here. Showing up regularly is what creates strength, confidence, and progress.
-
Memberships can be paused for up to 6 weeks per year of membership for a minimum of 2 weeks at a time. All requests must be made via email to hello@carvestudio.co.nz with at least one week’s notice.
We cannot accept pause requests via the app, social media message, text or verbal requests.
Pauses are designed to protect consistency when life happens - not to be used casually.
-
Memberships have a 12-week minimum term.
After the minimum term is complete, memberships can be cancelled with two weeks’ notice, via email to hello@carvestudio.co.nz.
We cannot accept cancellation requests via the app, social media message, text or verbal requests.
